Benmont Montessori has been set up by Mrs Benafsha Irani. After gaining her certification in Early Childhood Education from the Association Montessori Internationale, headquartered in the Netherlands, Benafsha has set up the school with a vision to bring to Pune a one of its kind Montessori.
Benmont Montessori, is dedicated to providing a stimulating learning environment for children in the age group of 2 to 6 years, consistent with the values and principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. The mixed age classroom encourages children of different ages to interact with, help and learn from each other in a healthy and holistic environment.
Benmont Montessori’s curriculum is designed to develop each child’s full human potential – emotionally, physically, intellectually, socially and to foster a life-long love for learning. We truly believe that every child is special and we strive to provide the children with a safe, comfortable environment where they grow to love, learn and explore.
Nestled in the by lanes of Dhole Patil Road, Benmont Montessori has a ‘Prepared Environment’ that provides just the right learning atmosphere to stimulate your child. The classroom is attractive, warm, inviting and the environment has been ‘prepared’ keeping in mind the needs of the child.
There are low level shelves displaying the learning material in sequential order which are easily accessible by the child, encouraging the child to make his own choices. We encourage balanced work and play cycles for which we provide a beautiful outdoor environment surrounded with bushes, flowering plants and a safe play area ensuring that children remain close to nature and unwind.
The Montessori Method
Montessori is an approach to early education that focuses on the immense capacity of children to absorb information when given the freedom and independence to learn at their own pace. The Montessori method of teaching is the most popular method of education in the western world. In India, the term "Montessori" is frequently used to describe Nurseries and Preschools. Unfortunately, very few people know the difference between the Montessori method of education and the conventional method.
The Montessori Method takes its name from Dr. Maria Montessori whose scientific background and belief in the potential and uniqueness of children empowered her to develop an educational approach that appreciates how children’s thought processes differ from those of adults. It dates back to as old as 1897. Dr. Maria Montessori developed her educational philosophy as a result of her observations of the way children naturally learn. She observed that children possess an innate desire to explore, discover and learn about their world. Keeping this in mind, Dr. Montessori said that Freedom is essential for a child to develop himself physically, intellectually and spiritually.
The points below will help understand how a Montessori Environment differs from a traditional one.
- The Classroom, also known as the Prepared Environment, is a child-centered, safe, stimulating prepared environment which is made keeping in mind the needs of the child.
- The materials used are manipulative, appealing to the senses, purposeful and give the child real life experiences.
- Everything in the environment is proportionate to the child, giving him the independence to choose what he wants to work with.
- The Mixed Age Group concept enables the older children to act as teachers and mentors for the younger ones. They truly care about, admire and support each other.
- The child is given freedom to choose his/her own work, depending on what his internal need is at that moment.
- The child can work at his/her own pace. The teacher adapts individualized lessons for each child, depending on the child's interest, learning style and ability.
- Students are taught to collaborate with each other rather than mindlessly compete. Dr. Montessori argued that in order for an education to touch children’s hearts and minds profoundly, students must learn because they are curious and interested, not simply to earn the highest grade in class.
- The Teacher known as the Directress has a passive role in the Environment. She observes, guides and directs the child to work with the materials as per his/her ability, however never imposes her teaching style on the children.
Our five senses connect the inner life of humans with the physical outside world.
Children indeed love flowers, but they need to do something more than remain among them and contemplate their colored blossoms.
The greatest sign of success for a teacher... is to be able to say, ’The children are now working as if I did not exist'
The only language men ever speak perfectly is the one they learn in babyhood, when no one can teach them anything
Montessori is an education for independence, preparing not just for school but for life
Within the child lies the fate of the future
Imitation is the first instinct of an awakening mind
Everything you say to your child is absorbed, catalogued and remembered
One test of the correctness of educational procedure is the happiness of the child
Childhood is not a race to see how quickly a child can read, write and count. Childhood is a small window of time to learn and develop at the pace which is right for each individual child
Benmont Montessori is a great new concept in imparting the right education to children in Pune. For our child, this has been a great experience. We have seen a completely new and creative side of hers, especially in her painting skills and clay moulding. For us, Benmont has been the perfect choice as the first school for our child.
I am very happy and satisfied with Benmont Montessori because my son has improved a lot. he has started speaking words and recognizing numbers and enjoys being at school. At Benmont, equal time and attention is given to extracurricular activities such as sports and music. What I truly appreciate about the school is that it sends home a daily report of the student's development. The best thing about the school is its teachers, well qualified, dedicated and passionate about their work.
Benmont Montessori has given my child a new direction. He has learnt so many new skills like making a ball with dough, sea animals and so on. The system of reporting daily activities of the child is something I thoroughly love because it helps me stay updated of the daily progress my child is making. He gets on to one personal attention and I am very happy with his overall progress. Thank you tecahers for your efforts!!
Totally loved the Montessori environment here! Highly recommended by this Montessori mom
My experience with Benmont was for a short duration but it seemed like a year has gone by... My son was a little short of reaching his 2 year milestone when he started his journey with Benmont. He instantly loved the atmosphere and the lovely teachers. Apart from a few days initially he was always excited to go to school. When he joined he was barely saying a few single words but just in 3 months I have seen a remarkable difference in him... He says complete sentences with correct grammar, almost always... I am amazed at his progress and give most of the credit to his teachers at Benmont. Benafsha, the principal is such a soft spoken and dedicated person, caring and loving towards her class children and I have always seen her smiling... It was such a great experience being a part of Benmont and look forward to spend the rest of my son's initial years at this school. Thanks Benafsha for everything
